Hieronymus Bosch has been a favorite painter of mine for a very long time. I remember I was a teenager when first seeing his work and being surprised by his imagery. I purchased a replica of the skater, found in the painting The Flight and the Fall of Saint Anthony. One early morning I happened to look up to see this beautiful composition of the figure with its’ shadow. My camera was at hand so I snapped off some photos. I’m glad I didn’t hesitate as in a matter of minutes the sunlight had moved and the interesting competition was gone. I chose to play with the figure, adding flitters to it to give the skater a more playful feel.
