Original Art titled BLM by Diane Staver.

I normally don’t work with the figure and nor do I use symbolism, but recent events demanded it. As we all know, we are witness to huge, important changes in this country, involving civil rights. I knew my king needed to been shown with dignity, but still being held down with the shackles that society has imposed.

I was inspired by a photo of the Jamaican musician, Gyptian. It was a profile photo, with his hair flying. The pose has a classical feel to it, reminding me of The Duke of Urbino Federico da Montefeltro. This is not a portrait of Gyptian, but a combination of several different men.
